Finally, A Link!

Just a quick one, I had setup goals using the analytics portal to inform me of when people were adding backlinks. Success! One has been added on the 22nd.

I'm well happy about this, it shows the site is working so fingers crossed for many more.

Its taken quite a while to get the first backlink, but I am glad that I didn't push the site too much and did some light SEO on it, now I can go forward and generate proper links back to the pages to increase its chances of being seen in this world.

Rankings Of The Site

Well, in the absence of anything exciting happening on the site at the moment I thought I would investigate as to how well the site is performing in the page rankings on the search engines. Since the aim is to generate organic traffic to the site I thought it would be useful to find out how the site ranks.
To do this I am using a tool called WebCEO. I've used this many times and the free version is more than adequate for what I want to do. The basic idea is to set it to look at the search engines you want to check and enter your keywords. For this, I have selected to monitor:

Backlinks Experiment
Free Backlinks
Generate Backlinks
One Million Backlinks
SEO Backlinks

I'm kinda saying that backlinks is one of my key words for this practice and there are more but the free version restricts me to only 5. Anyway, the tool goes and performs the searches and locates the sites and displays the results as below:

As the above shows the pages are ranking well for backlink experiments and OK for generate backlinks and SEO backlinks. The real winner is if someone looks for One Million Backlinks which I guess should be obvious because of the title of the project.

Next time I will show you the changes and we can compare as to how the site is doing.

Still Nothing

Well, there still hasn't been any new information added to the site. I'm at a bit of a loss really, I could do and post onto forums and say to my mates hey come and add your site but I think thats cheating a bit.

The whole point is to get a ranking naturally and increase that ranking over time. One area I am tempted to explore is the use of Facebook in order to see what that does to the rankings of the site and generating traffic, but I can't let it link to my exisiting profile because that would be driving my friends to give me backlinks which would defeat the experiment. Another option with I have ruled out is adding sites which I have not worked on. Currently the 4 that are listed are sites I personally have either created of developed from scratch, so in the interest of SEO for those sites I think its valid I add them myself.

Anyway, with a bit of luck I might get some more information over the next week to include a link back to my site.

Not Much Happening

Its been about a week since I launched the site and I expected takup to be slow but I would have thought a single person would have signed upto the site. So this blog post is really about telling folk that it is not some sort of scam website.

I have no intention of selling data or passing it onto anyone (so don't bother asking). The site is an experiment aimed at generating backlinks to see the effect and why people are requesting backlinks. If you really have any questions then just email me and I will get back to you with the answer.

I've got a couple of tweeks to the site to complete over the next few weeks to allow users to report content if its not upto standard. I also need to tweek my algorithum which generates the meta tags for the sub pages.

With a bit of luck, I will have at least one new person signed up by next week. In the meantime, if you have any questions please contact me.

Site Launch

I've finally finished the site which will be used to find out about what happens if I have a lot of links to a single site. Along the way I will post graphs and information onto this section in order to keep a record of the changes to the site.

As well as seeing this I want to know who is requesting links and for what reason and if there is a stand out area of business which is requesting backlinks. My theory is that this will be a marketing company but I might be wrong.

There are still some tweaks that need to be made to the site but please go over to Onemillionbacklinks.com and register your site. It is a one way link to you and it isn't a marketing scam or anything strange, just an experiment.
